Player Ratings: 2008/09 Season Awards - Part One - Monthly Awards Review

The Player-Ratings.com monthly awards were a bit of a monopoly for defenders until January. Aleksandar Tunchev claimed no less than four out of the first five of these awards with the very first one going to Jack Hobbs. Steve Howard broke this trend following Tunchev's injury with keeper Tony Warner having an impressive March while Lloyd Dyer stole the show during the final month of the season.

It was generally midfielders who failed to impress with Lloyd Dyer claiming four consecutive flop of the month titles from December to March. Max Gradel failed to live up to his early promise with the September and August titles while Paul Dickov, Jack Hobbs and Joe Mattock all claimed one a piece.

The most consistent player went to someone different every month while the most inconsistent was often given to the most impressive player of the month with the really top performances hard to match on a consistent basis.

After solely winning the award for the first four months, Matty Fryatt failed to win an attacker of the month title after Steve Howard's second half of the season form kept him out of the picture.

Player Ratings: Fryatt's Late Brace Takes Him Up To First Place

Matty Fryatt sealed back-to-back man of the match awards with his second double of the week against Paul Trollope's Bristol Rovers side at the Walkers Stadium on Saturday. Fryatt's mark would no doubt have been different if it weren't for the two late goals but to bring out a cliché, goals win games and that is exactly what Fryatt did for the Foxes on Saturday. Ever impressive Bulgarian Aleksandar Tunchev was runner-up to Fryatt with impact sub Nicky Adams finishing in third place.

Player Ratings: Fryatt Brace Seals Man of the Match Award

  Huddersfield Town 2-3 Leicester City
4 October 2008

Matty Fryatt received the accolades after scoring a brace against Huddersfield Town at the Galpharm Stadium this weekend. Fryatt received his second man of the match award of the season with a fairly unspectacular score of 7.09 pipping in-form Lloyd Dyer to the award with Dyer being the only other player to receive an average rating of 7 or above. Bulgarian international Aleksandar Tunchev rounded off the top three.

Player Ratings: Lloyd Anything But Dyer

Winger Lloyd Dyer unsurprisingly claimed this week's man of the match award after a scintillating performance capped by two goals won over the fans' hearts and minds. Dyer got the highest rating achieved by anybody this season in the 4-0 win at Cheltenham. Goalscorers Matt Oakley and Matty Fryatt rounded off the top three.
