Match Report: Five-Star Foxes Thump Posh

LEICESTER put in a five-star performance to see off League One side Peterborough United at London Road on Tuesday night.
match report
Steve Howard led the charge with a brace as the freescoring Foxes were comfortable 5-1 victors against Gary Johnson's men.

It was City's biggest and best win of the summer so far and will give Foxes' fans plenty to be positive about ahead of the Championship kick-off a week on Saturday.

Paulo Sousa made four changes to the side that drew 1-1 with Oxford United at the weekend with Conrad Logan, Robbie Neilson, Matt Oakley and Dany N'Guessan coming in for Chris Weale, Nicky Adams, Richie Wellens and Howard respectively.

The hosts made the brighter start and former fox James Wesolowski came close to firing Posh ahead with a long-range effort which drifted just wide of goal.

City took their time in getting into the contest but soon started to show their superiority as Posh defender Ryan Bennet rattled a clearance against his own bar.

The breakthrough came on 23 minutes when Neilson's cross was fumbled by United stopper Joe Lewis and Andy King was on-hand to tap in the rebound.

It took just five minutes for the visitors to double their lead as Fryatt sent a ball through to DJ Campbell who's pace got the better of the home defence and his cool finish beat Lewis to make it 2-0.

Sousa's men had to wait until the start of the second half to add to their advantage and it came through Frenchman N'Guessan.

Peterborough continued to huff and puff in front of goal but they couldn't find a way through the Leicester defence.

And the visitors were gifted their fourth when a terrible ball from former fox Wesolowski allowed substitute Howard to steal in for a comfortable goal.

Johnson's men did pull a deserved goal back in the latter stages when Grant McCann fired a free-kick into the back of the net.

But Leicester had the last say on the contest when Howard completed a good day at the office with his second and Leicester's fifth of the night following good work from Jeffrey Schlupp.

Posh: Lewis (sub Collis 72min), Langmead, Lee, Bennett, Rowe, Wesolowski, McCann, Boyd, Mendez-Laing (sub Davies 61min), Hibbert, Mclean (sub Nana 72min). Unused subs: Piergianni, Koranteng.

Foxes: Logan, Neilson (sub Howard 68min), Morrison (sub Parkes 75min), Oakley (sub Verma 79min), DJ Campbell (sub Hebib 68min), King (sub Wellens 70min), Dyer (sub John 75min), Fryatt (sub Chambers 79min), Berner (sub Kennedy 64min), N'Guessan (sub Schlupe 79min), Hobbs. Unused subs: Weale.
