Veteran defender Chris Powell has been appointed onto the club’s coaching staff.
He had been linked with a return to Charlton to fulfil a similar role, but Pearson’s influence and last season’s success has tipped the favour in City’s balance.
Powell will still be registered as a player as he approaches his 40th birthday, though the defender admits he does not expect to see much playing time.
His official role is First Team Development Coach, working alongside other coaches Shakespeare, Walsh and Taggart.
This can only be good news for the club, as although he wasn’t always a starter, his steady performances and influential role off the pitch contributed to City’s immediate return to the Championship.
